Unity 4.0 Beta 2


Linux Export Option
Export a standalone player for 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (amd64) Linux.
Select "Linux 32-bit" or "Linux 64-bit" from the Target Platform list in the Build Settings.
Supported Platforms
Standalone players will run on most modern Linux systems with vendor-supplied graphics drivers.
Official support will be provided for 32 or 64-bit Ubuntu Linux, version 10.10 (Maverick Meerkat) or newer, with graphics cards using vendor-supplied drivers.
Known Issues
Profiler does not work with the 64-bit player.
Movie playback not implemented yet.
No font fallback for Chinese, Japanese, or Korean characters.
Improvements
Added all features and fixes from Unity 3.5.3.
Threading: Optimized multithreaded job scheduler (used for skinning, Mecanim, Shuriken, shader compilation, texture compression).
Graphics: added Mesh.colors32, faster and uses less memory (also coming in 3.5.4 soon).
Graphics: exposed GUITexture.border to scripts.
Shuriken: Optimizations across the board for performance and less memory usage.
ProjectBrowser: Enabled support for searching the Asset Store from inside project window.
ProjectBrowser: Implemented subtree searching: Either search in all Assets or in selected folder and its children. The state can be set by using the drop down the search results bar.
Mecanim: New State Machine UI.
Mecanim: New Transition Preview UI.



Changes

Editor: requires a DX9-capable GPU now (pretty much anything since 2004).
Fixes
Shuriken: Can't remove disabled UI modules, gizmo scaling issue, simulation preview issues when scrubbing.
Shuriken: Fixed sub-emitter memory leaks, occasional crash.
Graphics: Fixed crashes that sometimes occurred on OpenGL with mismatched GL.Begin/GL.End pairs.
Graphics: Fixed TrailRenderer culling issue.
Graphics: Don't break batching based on shadow distance when there aren't any shadow casting lights.
Graphics: Properly take line width into account when adding points to LineRenderer.
Graphics: SubShader tags (render queue etc.) take shader LOD into account properly now.
Graphics: Free up temporary memory used by non-uniformly scaled mesh when deactivating a mesh renderer.
Graphics: Static batching performs better when there are multiple lightmaps in the scene (before it could run into cases where it wasn't batching much).
Graphics: Fixed VRAM amount detection on some Intel SandyBridge / IvyBridge GPUs (also coming to 3.5.4 soon).
Graphics: Fixed a rare "invalid angle: inf" error message with terrain and shadows.
Math: Fixed Plane.SameSide equation side error.
Editor: Fixed component context menu copy/paste with Transform components.
Editor: Component context menu move up/down & copy/paste handles multi-selection.
Editor: Scene view uses the same rendering path as main camera. Much less confusion!
Editor: Soft particles usage hint in Quality Settings UI.
Editor: Screen.width and Screen.height much more consistently report actual game view size when used outside of editor window GUI code.
Editor: Make default values for sphere & capsule colliders use 0,0,0 for the center (it previously was not precisely zero due to floating point inaccuracies).
Editor: Make the TextMesh inspector automatically change the material of the MeshRenderer when the font is changed.
Editor: Properly reset MovieTextures when entering play mode.
Editor: Fix crash if importing an AudioClip fails during project re-import.
Editor: Fixed null ref when using "Open" button in the inspector for model files in some cases
Image Effects: fixed Flash-related warning messages when importing Image Effects package.
Input: Fixed OnMouseDown and related callbacks being wrongly sent to cameras that render into RenderTextures.
Mac OS X Standalone: Use OS X Lion style fullscreen mode, to allow other windows to show up in front of fullscreen apps, and to allow switching in and out of fullscreen mode by clicking onto the fullscreen button in the window title bar (optional).
Mac OS X Standalone: Changed event processing to allow other windows to receive keyboard events, to allow better integration with OS services such as GameCenter using plugins.
WWW Class: Fix parsing text encoding if the encoding http header contains more parameters.
OS X Web Player: Make IME support work in all Mac browsers.
OS X Web Player: Fix focus handling when the browser is switched to the background or the user switches to another window/tab.
Physics: Fix MeshCollider not working if it had been scaled to be zero sized, and then scaled up again.
Physics: Fixed a bug where Raycasts against CapsuleColliders with a zero-length middle section would not always return correct results.
Physics: Fixed a bug where destroyed colliders would not be properly deallocated if Time.timeScale was zero.
Animation: exposed ModelImporter.generateAnimations as a bool, to allow control of over imported animation from an asset file.

Known Issues
ProjectBrowser: When clicking the Buy or "View in asset store" buttons in the inspector it will open an invalid page in the asset store window.

The following are changes and fixes to 4.0 features and regressions...

Editor: Fix Undo for setting active property on GameObjects with children to work correctly with the new active state handling
Shuriken: Fixed bent normals on Flash.
Shuriken: Fixed various particle system simulation culling issues.
Graphics: Fixed SkinnedMeshRenderer.BakeMesh.
Graphics: fixed mesh.MarkDynamic with lost vertex buffers.
Graphics: fixed issue with skinned meshes that are created from code.
Graphics: fixed StaticBatchingUtility.Combine that was broken in previous 4.0 builds.
Editor: Fixed scene view handles when using OpenGL ES 1.1 shader emulation.
Editor: Ensure items are always rendered focused in ObjectSelector.
ProjectBrowser: Content pane items (right column) now has dragging/hovering effects like they do in the folder tree.
ProjectBrowser: Revealing and highlighting sub-assets in content pane now works.
ProjectBrowser: Copy/paste fixed for rename field and search field.
ProjectBrowser: Save filter dialogue now has Cancel button.
ProjectBrowser: Issue with deletion of assets is fixed.
ProjectBrowser: 'SelectDependencies' now show the list of selected assets in the project browser.
